I remember great times – the first Woodbury Days at the Afton Fire Hall, picnics at the barn burns, July 4 celebrations, and so on.
But the best memory was the first EMT class, back in the 70’s, when all the firemen requested women to register the guys and to “stick around and serve cookies and coffee during breaks.” No one volunteered until Carol Anderson and I did…on one condition…if we could take the course! And that is what we did! We became the first female EMTs for the Woodbury FIre Department. However, there was a wee hitch – women were not allowed to be on the Rescue Squad!
We’ve come a long way!
